Mary and family, I don't have the words to express how much heartache I feel for you and your family. As I've looked at all the messages in this Guest Book I can see how many people Jim has touched with his one of a kind personality, and today you will be overwhelmed with the outreach of so many more. May you find comfort and peace in knowing that Jim lived his life to the fullest and shared it as God intended with so many. Heaven has received one of it's brightest stars and I'm sure he's lighting up heaven with his infectious smile. Many hugs and prayers. Dawn

Mary & family, my most sincerest condolences! As others have already said so well - what a shock and loss for us, though it cannot compare to your heart break! Jim was one of a kind! A hole in our lives that will never be filled! June

Mary and family, I am so sorry for your loss. The thoughts and prayers of my family are with you constantly. My first thought was I can't believe no one will ever see that smile again. I saw Jim last Sunday morning and he said to me "We have just the place for you right upstairs." I am counting on Jim to save that place for me. During church services on Sunday, our pastor gave the children tape measures, to be able to "measure" how much God loves them. Paul's is sitting on our kitchen table. He said it is very special to him because it also reminds him how much Jim loved everyone. We will all be blessed, even in his absence, from knowing Jim.

Dear Mary and Family, Our sympathy goes out to you at this sad time. I will always remember time spent with Jim during our Canada fishing trips and remember how anxious he was to get back to his family after being away. He will be missed and always remembered. Dan Meyer and Family

Family and Friends, as I sit down, again, to write the sermon for Jim's CELEBRATION OF LIFE, I am grateful for all expressions of support for family. We grieve as community and brothers and sisters in Christ knowing we were blest by this man who God entrusted us with for some 68 years. "When we all get to heaven, what a joyous reunion that will be!" this hymn holds New meaning for me. Rest in God's arms.

Mr. Carlson was one of those people I always looked for when I knew he'd be around. He always had time to talk, and his perspective was always positive and encouraging. He spent extra time on one particularly lazy student back in the 90s and I was always thankful for that. He also gave countless hours of his time working with the Boy Scouts of Utica Troop 180 as a merit badge counselor. He will be missed. Thank you, Mr. Carlson, for everything.

Dear Mary, Tricia, Jana and Trent, The past few days I have been thinking of all the things Jim and I did together. We were in JC's, went to Canada fishing, turkey hunting and participated in many other community events together. Jim was ecstatically happy when each of his children was born and has always spoken of them often and with much pride. I feel a huge loss as does the whole community but that cannot compare to the loss you as a family feel. Please accept my sincere sympathy and I pray that God will comfort you in the days to come.

I was stunned to hear of Mr. Carlson's passing, mainly because he had left me a congratulatory message just the night before. I will always remember his jokes, accompanied by that smile. We will all miss his helpful and positive attitude. He was a great man, who I enjoyed having as a teacher. My condolences to the family at this time. May God embrace and hold you close.

Jim had an inventive and can-do mind. It seemed he could fix or make just about anything. He once made a unit to haul canoes for our camping group's trip to the Niobrara. Kind-hearted and community-minded, he used his talents to help neighbors, friends and family. He pitched in at church, in organizations he belonged to and wherever he was needed. A man of great character, Jim modeled the Ten Commandments.

Mr Carlson was a great teacher and a major influence on my outlook on life. I wasn’t the easiest kid to put up with when I went through his class but he never told me I couldn’t do anything that I put my mind to. I only wish I would have stayed in touch to finding out if he ever finished restoring his Nomad. “Create the beautiful that’s in your mind...and give it to the world!” Mr. Carlson

WOW I just don't know where to begin. Mr Carlson you were one of a kind, You cared so much about each student that you ever taught and even after all the years you still knew them by name. I remember when My sister Starr was killed in 1986,she was working on a clock that all the kids made with the circle of wood, well anyway she passed away before it was even finished and you finished it up for her and gave it to my mom, that clock still sits in Starr's room. you were always joking and laughing, even tho you tried to be serious with all of those who sat in your detention hall after school you still made time to get to know us each personally. Mom always would remember you when you when you and Mary would deliver her meals on wheels maybe it was cause she did MANY parent teacher conferences between us 5 girls, you are going to be missed by so many and the world lost a amazing man but God gained an AMAZING Angel RIP MR C you will be missed...

Mary, I'm so sorry to hear about Jim, my heart just breaks for you and the kids. I just loved how every time at church, if it had been a week or months, Jim always wanted to know what the family was up to. He was one of the first people I met at the county fair in that old poultry barn, and just made me feel like I was going to be able to handle anything. Then to have him be such a great part of Katie's life between chickens, school, and church just made his blessings flow abundantly in our lives. Prayers and thoughts are with your family!
