John was born on May 21, 1953 to James and Edith (Wood) Day in Macon, Georgia. John graduated from Athens High School in 1973. On August 8, 1981, John was united in marriage to Debra McNeil in Key West, Florida. John served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years as a machinist and retired in 1995. John was on active duty in Vietnam, Desert Storm and Grenada. John was a member of the Utica American Legion #49 for 13 years, Utica Masonic Lodge #96, York Masonic Lodge #56 and Masonic Shrine. John passed away on August 11, 2013 in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 60 years, 2 months an 21 days. John is survived by his wife Debra Day, Utica, Nebraska; brothers, James “Bo” (Eleanor) Day, Jr., Atlanta, GA, Billy (Karen) Day, Dallas, TX; sisters, Martha Patrick, Athens, GA, Mary (Jimmie) Griggs, Athens, GA, Judy (Rob) Warren, Chapel Hill, NC, Deborah Day, Chapel Hill, NC, Cindy (David) Ross, Stone Mountain, GA; father-in-law, Loren McNeil, Utica, NE; brother-in-law, Roger McNeil, Utica, NE, sister-in-law, Janell Gladson, Utica, NE; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; special niece, Kimberly Baloun, York, NE; and special Pets, Elizabeth, Angie and Daisy. John was preceded in death by his parents, James and Edith (Wood) Day; brother, Steve Day; sister, Quida Day; mother-in-law, Ada McNeil; brothers-in-law, Virgil Gladson and Jimmie Patrick.
