LaVerne “Lue” Marie Heidtbrink was born on May 8, 1935 at her home in Lincoln, Nebraska to William and Marie Green (they were of German descent from Russia). Lue was the youngest of three children. She had two brothers, Ron and Jim. LaVerne graduated from Lincoln High School in 1953. She competed in numerous sports in high school and received the GAA (Girls Athletic Association) Cup Award in 1954. She was also the GAA Vice President. She worked at Elgin Clock in Lincoln, Heidtbrink’s General Store in Malcolm and was a paraprofessional at Malcolm Public School. On June 6, 1954, LaVerne was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Heidtbrink at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Malcolm, Nebraska. They built their own house which they lived in for over 60 years. Lue and Bob had four children, Mike, Cheryl, Charlotte and Mark. Lue loved planting flowers and won numerous ribbons at the County and State Fair. She made and decorated many cakes for family and friends. She made bird houses for the kindergarteners at school and loved to make cream puffs for the children in kindergarten through sixth grade. Lue faithfully served the Lord by teaching Sunday School, Weekday School, Vacation Bible School and doing Children’s Sermons. She was also a Girl Scout Troop leader. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. Lue passed away on September 6, 2018 in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 83 years, 3 months and 29 days. She is survived by her son, Mike (Elaine) Heidtbrink, Alpine, California; daughters, Cheryl Codr (Danny) Lorenz, Friend, Nebraska, Charlotte (Darryl) Whisenhunt, Malcolm, Nebraska; brother, James Green, Van Nuys, California; grandchildren, Seth Heidtbrink, Shenoah (Bobby) Riess, Samuel Heidtbrink, Sierra Heidtbrink, Jessica Codr, Joshua (Kimberly) Codr, Brian (Kaylee) Codr, Nathaniel (Sara) Whisenhunt, Joey (Anna) Lorenz, Jason (Jessica) Lorenz; great grandchildren, Noah, Matthew and Lily Whisenhunt, Emma Codr, Brynlee, Jaxon, Jethro, and Jayla Lorenz. Lue was preceded in death by her parents, William and Marie Green; husband, Robert “Bob” Heidtbrink; son, Mark Heidtbrink; brother and sister-in-law, Ron and Judy Green; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lucille “Lucy” and Dale Gammel; grandson, Aaron Heidtbrink; aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
