Obituary:

Martin (Marty) Erwin Otte was born October 29, 1939 to Herbert and Alma (Richert) Otte. He grew up on his Grandpa and Grandma Richertís farm in rural Gresham next to St. Paulís Lutheran Church and School. Martin attended St. Paulís Lutheran for grades 1-8 and then continued his education at Gresham High School. Martin joined the US Army in 1956 and served 4 years with the majority of his Army time being spent in Berlin, Germany. Martin returned to the Gresham area and began farming in 1961. In 1968, Martin met and began dating Anne Dunn of Osceola. They were married on December 26, 1969 and began their married life together in York where Anne taught at the high school. The young couple moved to the Ulysses area and began farming together the spring of 1970. Martin and Anne were blessed with four children (Mark, Mary, Thomas, and Katharina). Martin farmed for all of his life and loved farming.
Martin had a strong faith in Jesus and sought to serve him all of his life. Martin was one of the founding members of Grace Lutheran Church in Seward. Martin had a passion for Lutheran education and one of the great loves of his life was being able to serve on the board of controls of both Nebraska Evangelical Lutheran High School and Trinity Lutheran School during their formative years in the late 70ís and early 80ís. His love of his Savior and passion for Lutheran education has been passed on to all of his children and grandchildren.
Martin is survived by his children: Mark and Jen (Fredrich) Otte of York, Thomas and Mary Arens of Graceville, MN, Thomas and Alison (Harms) Otte of Ulysses, and Clayton and Katharina Stokes of Seward. Martin was blessed with and enjoyed spending time with his twelve grandchildren: Faith, Olivia, Samuel, and Lily Otte; Michelle and Joseph Arens; Luke, Kate, and Dean Otte; and Alexander, Megan, and Anne Stokes. He is also survived by his brother Reinhold and sister-in-law Leona, by his sister Evelyn and brother-in-law Garfield, by his brother Bill and sister-in-law Sharon, and by his brother-in-law Dell.
Martin was preceded in death by his wife Anne, by his parents, by his in-laws Lewis and Alice Dunn, by his brothers Arthur and Fredrich. By his sisters Ruth and Louise, and by his brother-in-law C.J. Dunn.
