Reed Sterling Sander was born on August 8, 1948 to Harlen and Dolores (Saalfeld) Sander in Columbus, Nebraska. He attended elementary school at Christ Lutheran School in Columbus, Nebraska. He then attended Concordia High School in Seward, Nebraska, graduating in 1966. Following high school he attended Concordia Teachers College in Seward, Nebraska graduating in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. He also received a Master of Science in Education Administration and a Certificate of Advance Study from State University of New York in Brockport, New York. On July 17, 1971, Reed was united in marriage to Sharolyn May Schomburg at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Latimer, Iowa. Reed worked as a teacher/administrator for the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. He served at many different schools, including: St. John Lutheran School, Hamlin, New York 1970-1977; Zion Lutheran School, Kearney, Nebraska 1977-1982; Trinity Lutheran School, Fremont, Nebraska 1982-1989; Trinity Lutheran School, Roselle, Illinois, 1989-2002; Northern Illinois District, Education Exec. 2002-2013; Concordia Academy, Omaha, Nebraska 2013-2015. Reed served the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod for 45 years, retiring in 2015. His served on many local, district, and synodical boards and committees. Trinity, Roselle received the Blue Ribbon School Award under his leadership and he was named a National Distinguished Principal in 1994. Reed is survived by his wife, Sharolyn Sander, Lincoln, Nebraska; son, Ty Sander, St. Charles, Missouri; daughter, Shanna (Jamie) Opfer, Seward, Nebraska; grandchildren, Brooklynn Sander, Lillian Sander, Korbin Opfer, Addison Opfer, Trevin Opfer; mother, Dolores (Saalfeld) Sander, Columbus, NE; brothers, Drue Sander, Ames, IA, and Layne Sander, Columbus, NE; sister, Sharlyn (Sander) Siebler, Omaha, NE. He was preceded in death by father, Harlen Sander.
