Dean O. Ouellette was born on June 4, 1936 to Roland Joseph and Edna Rose (Girard) Ouellette in St. Joseph, Kansas. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Joseph, Kansas, and has been a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Seward, Nebraska. On March 25, 1955 Dean was united in marriage to Delores Elaine Schulz at St. John Lutheran Church parsonage in Seward, Nebraska. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Ronda, Renee and Ronny. Dean passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on August 25, 2025 at the age of 89 years, 2 months and 21 days.
Dean spent his life serving others through both his work and his love of food. Together with his wife, Delores, he owned and operated Johnson’s Tasty Foods in Seward from 1966 to 1990, creating a welcoming place where friends and families gathered to enjoy good meals and good company. They later managed the Seward Country Club for five years and the York Country Club for two years. For the next 20 years, Dean could be found at RO’s Lounge, sharing his passion for food and the family favorites; broasted chicken, charburgers, and RO’s legendary prime rib, which people came to love.
Outside of work, Dean enjoyed fishing, golfing, and watching sports. He treasured time with friends and especially loved playing cards with his Sunday night card club, a tradition he kept for more than 40 plus years. Above all, his greatest joy was the time he spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He rarely missed their school activities or sporting events. He always kept his refrigerator stocked with ice cream and wafer cookies for his weekly visits with his great-grandchildren. Over the years, he and Delores cherished countless family trips, especially fishing and camping at Milford Lake and Calamus Reservoir.
He is survived by his children, Ronda (Kurt) Baumbach, Renee (Dave) Coufal, and Ronny “RO” Ouellette all of Seward. He was a proud grandfather to Stacey (Pat) Piskorski and their children, Kenna (Sean) Kruse and Bryce; Andrea (Trent) Springer and their children, Tyson, Carter, and Riley; Jeremy (Haley) Coufal and their children, Ainsley, Britton, and Caden; Ryan (Hilary) Coufal and their daughter Hazel; Lynsey (Thomas) Kayton and their children Nora, Weston, and Ella; and Madison (Brady) Trevino and their children Hudson, Brighton, and Arlie; siblings and spouses, Lorretta Hinkle, Jim Ouellette, Sharon (Gary) Keeler; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Greg Fell, Wayne (Chris) Schulz, Lois Reins, and Bruce Christensen; and a host of family and friends. Dean was preceded in death by his loving wife, Delores Ouellette of 63 years, parents, Roland and Edna Ouellette; brother, Larry Ouellette; sisters, Leona (Bill) Sand and Diana Fell; brother-in-law, Walt Hinkle; sister-in-law, Peg Ouellette; parents-in-law, Rudolph and Edna Schulz; stepmother, Amanda Schulz; brothers-in-law, Virgil Schulz, Gery Reins, Don (Carol) Freeman; sister-in-law, Marian (Delmar) Maier, Diane Christensen.
