Esther Niemann Obituary

Esther was born December 30th, 1918 in Staplehurst, NE to Anna Rebecca Hahn and Joseph Eng, joining her brothers at home. She was baptized January 12, 1919 at Immanuel Lutheran in Staplehurst and attended the parochial school there. Esther was confirmed March 20, 1932, with her verse being Revelations 2:10. While in grade school, she would stop in to check on her Grandma and Grandpa Ahrens before class. She would put on her Grandpa Ahrens's socks and shoes for him, even though Grandma always insisted that "he can do it himself!" When her Grandpa passed in the summer of 1936, she spent her senior year living with and taking care of Grandma Ahrens while also sometimes working for another family a little further up the hill. After coming home from high school in Seward, her ride would drop her off at home. She'd grab a bite to eat, then would run up the hill to stay with that family's disabled daughter, for 25 cents a night. Esther spent two years at Staplehurst High School and the last two in Seward, graduating in 1937. After her Grandma Ahrens passed away, Esther spent the next several years working for various families in the area, doing the cleaning, washing, and driving the lady of the house around. Esther then worked full time in her oldest brother's restaurant in Staplehurst. During her free time she was involved with the Walther League and would go to Choir in the school basement. After Loren "let her catch him," he and Esther were married December 14, 1947 in the Staplehurst parsonage by Pastor Walter Ernstmeyer. She worked at the restaurant two more weeks after they were married, until they could get schedules realigned and get along without her. Esther and Loren worked his family farm until the kids were big enough to help. When her parents fell ill in 1955, she spent her days in Staplehurst taking care of them until their deaths, by then also having three children. She kept the house, had a large garden, cooked and baked - baking bread every couple of weeks for over 65 years. Everything they did was for their children. Loren and Esther enjoyed having their grandchildren spend quite a lot of time on the farm too. Esther passed away on July 30, 2018 in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 99 years and 7 months. She is survived by her children, Keith (Helen) Niemann, Lincoln, Nebraska, Linda (Randy) Rink, Waverly, Nebraska, Dale (Beth) Niemann, Staplehurst, Nebraska, Tim (Nancy) Niemann, Peachtree Corners, Georgia, Paul Niemann, Staplehurst, Nebraska, June Niemann, Lincoln, Nebraska; grandchildren, Kristi (Marc) Larson, Seward, Nebraska, Stacie (Bruce) Moore, Omaha, Nebraska, Kelly Rink, Lincoln, Nebraska, Josh Niemann, Kansas City, Missouri, Kim (Markus) Hoesly, Creston, Nebraska, Lauren (Daniel) Madsen, Lincoln, Nebraska, Brian (Rebecca) Rink, Grand Island, Nebraska, Zac Niemann, Kansas City, Missouri, Eric (Kate) Niemann, Wichita, Kansas, Michael (Jennifer) Niemann, Staplehurst, Nebraska; 24 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
