Helen Everts, of Lincoln (formerly of Seward), was born on March 4, 1931 to John and Bertha (Mielke) Boernsen in Ocheyedan, Iowa. Helen graduated from Hartley High School in 1949, after which she attended Concordia Teacher’s College (Concordia University), first earning her teaching certificate and later a Bachelor’s Degree in 1975. On June 2, 1953, Helen was united in marriage to Carl Everts in May City, Iowa, and they lived in Michigan, Iowa and Texas before making their home in Seward, Nebraska in 1969. She taught in one room schoolhouses before starting life as a wife and mother. Helen loved her work as a librarian at the Seward Public Library and Concordia University’s Link Library. She also enjoyed gardening, refinishing antiques, quilting, crafting and going to garage sales. Helen entered her eternal home on March 26, 2022 in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 91 years and 22 days. She is survived by her beloved husband, Carl Everts of Lincoln, Nebraska; children, Marcia Houchin of Lincoln, Nebraska, Karla (Bill) Billen of Topeka, Kansas, Mike (Terri) Everts of Fernley, Nevada, Jennine (Mike) Neihardt of Lincoln, Nebraska; grandchildren, Alex Houchin, Leah Gregory (Russell Thorsness), Erika (John) Hendley, Katie Kuntzman, Sam (Yuka) Billen, Dan (Rosa) Billen, Elizabeth (Larry) Rickmann, Sara (Bob) Frew, Molly (Kevin) Frost, Ryan Everts, Sadie Everts, Joel Neihardt, Derek (Karol) Neihardt, Scott (Hannah) Neihardt; 19 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Elmer (Evelyn) Boernsen and Merle Boernsen; and granddaughter Rachel Neihardt.
