Helen Jean Winterfeld was born on February 7, 1937 to Martin and Ruth (Rathje) Hans in Surprise, Nebraska. She was baptized and confirmed into the St. John Lutheran Church in Rising City, Nebraska. Helen attended Rising City High School graduating in 1954. On June 5, 1955 Helen was united in marriage to Glen Winterfeld at St. John Lutheran Church in Rising City, Nebraska. This union was blessed with three children: Sondra, Randal, and Martin. They made their home on ‘F’ Street in Milford, Nebraska where she lived until moving to Lakeview Assisted Living in Firth, Nebraska several years ago. Helen was a long time member of Grace Lutheran Church in Seward, Nebraska and loved participating in all church related activities. Early in their marriage, Helen assisted Glen with the operation of many grain elevators. Later, she worked at Seward Lumber for 43 years as a clerk and “unofficial boss lady”. Any time you needed a pen, it was best to check in her hair first. In her free time, Helen enjoyed working in her yard, gardening, being outside, and being with people. She especially enjoyed following her grandchildren’s activities and was always the loudest, most passionate fan in the stands. Helen passed away on October 25, 2024 in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 87. She is survived by her sons, Randy (Cindy) Winterfeld of Seward, Nebraska and Marty Winterfeld of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Rebecca (Travis) Fuller of Dorchester, Nebraska, Kelly Winterfeld of Lebanon, Pennsylvania, and Alyssa (Aidan Gagner) Winterfeld of Denver, Colorado; great grandchildren, Kasen and Kaleb Fuller of Dorchester, Nebraska; sister, Marilyn Chadd of Montgomery, Illinois; brother, Everett (Jeannie) Hans of Rising City, Nebraska. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Ruth Hans; husband, Glen Winterfeld; infant daughter, Cindy Sue Winterfeld; and daughter, Sondra Holthus.
