Irene Minnie Houdersheldt of York was born on November 29, 1928 to Orville and Clara (Klepper) Radford in Staplehurst, Nebraska. She was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Staplehurst on February 3, 1929. She attended elementary school in Staplehurst and was confirmed on April 6, 1942. Her confirmation verse was Revelations 2:10, “Be thou faithful unto death and I will give thee a crown of life”. The family moved from Staplehurst to Seward at which time Irene began working at Seward Hospital. On August 23, 1951 Irene was united in marriage to Homer Houdersheldt. Homer and Irene were very active in farming. They raised quail and pheasants for the State of Nebraska to be released in Western Nebraska. They both loved to roller skate and built their own rink, Rol Mor, in Seward. They also started catering and fixing up rental properties. Following Homer’s passing in 1989, Irene continued with the roller rink and catering for a few years. In her free time she enjoyed cross stitch, making quilts, towels and pillowcases. She made beautiful wedding, anniversary and birthday cakes. She also liked to make flower arrangements for all occasions. She was a member of Seward United Methodist Church. She enjoyed the Sunday morning fellowship and attending bible study. She sang in the church choir and made rolls and cakes for church functions. Irene passed away on March 24, 2021 in York, Nebraska at the age of 92 years, 3 months and 25 days. She is survived by her brothers, Weldon (Trudy) Radford, Burlington, Colorado, LeRoy Radford, Garland, Nebraska; sisters, Verna Neujahr, Utica, Nebraska, Evelyn (Bill) Reynolds, Fairfield Bay, Arkansas; sister-in-laws, Donna Radford, Seward, Nebraska, Marian Radford, Lincoln, Nebraska; brother-in-laws, Dale Anderson, Milford, Nebraska, Marty Jacobs, Bellwood, Nebraska; numerous nieces and nephews. Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Clara Radford; husband, Homer Houdersheldt; brothers and sister-in-laws, Charles and Vera Radford, Leland Radford, Harold and Lola Radford, Clifford Radford, Pam Radford; sisters and brother-in-laws, Darlene and Fred Shook, Elaine Anderson, Viola Jacobs, Glen Neujahr.
