Jaimie Calmus Obituary

Jaimie Elizabeth Calmus was born on May 8, 1990, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Kelley and Darla (Huisman) Ball. She attended West Lyon High School, graduating in 2008. She then attended the University of Sioux Falls and earned bachelor’s degrees in psychology and nursing.

On September 14, 2013, Jaimie was united in marriage to Zach Calmus in Parker, South Dakota. They spent the first two years of their marriage in Sioux Falls before moving to Lincoln, Nebraska, in 2015. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Bryan Medical Center in Lincoln after moving. They welcomed Pearl (2016), Sullivan (2018) and Edgar (2023) into the world and built their dream house and life on an acreage just east of Seward, Nebraska. In her free time, she enjoyed running, golfing, and harvesting the produce from their garden.

Jaimie was charismatic and made people feel like they hit the jackpot if they were lucky enough to be in her life. She was playful and always quick to unexpectedly roast you. If she didn’t say it, her eyebrows would. She wasn’t late, but she was never on time. She liked to dress ‘outside the box,’ but whatever she chose to wear always worked. She was never afraid to question something and cared to hear the perspectives and experiences of others. She had a huge heart for justice and mercy and did what she could to speak up for the issues close to her heart. Her family will miss many things about her, such as her impeccable wit and sarcasm, her eye for quirky and pretty things, the way she beat everyone at board games, the late night conversations talking about anything and everything, the way her eyes squinted when she smiled, the smirk she gave that simultaneously said, “I love you, but I’m still judging you,” and the way she never held back from living life to its fullest. Jaimie loved well and was well loved.

Jaimie passed away on August 22, 2024, in Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of 34. She is survived by her parents, Kelley Ball of Centerville, South Dakota and Darla Ball of Larchwood, Iowa; husband, Zach Calmus of Seward, Nebraska; children, Pearl, Sullivan and Edgar Calmus; brother, Corey (Kiera) Ball of Aberdeen, South Dakota; sisters, MacKenzie (Sean) Benz of Montgomery, Minnesota, and Kayla (James) Dykes of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; nieces and nephews, Luscinia and Silvanus Ball and Emerson Dykes. Jaimie was preceded in death by all her Grandparents and her aunt Wanda Kooima.
