James Alvin Luebbe passed suddenly on July 8, 2025. Jim was the third of four children born to Alvin and Albertina (Mehuron) Luebbe. Jim started school in Goehner, continued in Beaver Crossing, and graduated in the first senior class at Centennial Public Schools. He earned a Bachelors degree at UNL. Jim married Linda Naber and had two children, Ellie and Karl.
Jim’s life had as much variety as one can in 74 short years. Over the years, he worked as an engineer for Plectron and Square D, spent nearly a decade farming, became an aerial spray pilot, served as a Goehner Volunteer Fireman, sold insurance, worked as a civil engineer at Olsson Associates, served as Holy Cross Church President, and was still writing school board policy for the Nebraska Association of School Boards at the time of his passing. He was a published poet, competed in Autocross with his Z-28 Camero, acted in the Goehner Melodrama, received recognition for his time on the Centennial School Board, earned rosettes at the Seward County Fair in photography, organized numerous class reunions, and traveled abroad often with his wife, Linda, touring many historically fascinating locations. He enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including reading (especially history), music (especially Dixieland Jazz), Seward Bluejays music events, Husker sports, movies, photography, and planting trees, roses, and gourds around their acreage. Jim jumped at any chance to travel, especially to visit Karl or meet up in New Orleans and hear live music. He was an endless supporter and cheerleader of his family and spent much time, along with Linda, hauling and watching his children and grandchildren as they practiced and performed.
He is survived by wife Linda Luebbe of Beaver Crossing; children and spouses Ellie and Adam Janda of Beaver Crossing and Karl and Joslyn Luebbe of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren Emaline, Gwendalyn, Agatha, Harrison, and Benjamin Janda, Beaver Crossing; sisters and spouses Janice and Ed Sittler, Grand Island, and Diane and Larry Gloystein, Lincoln; sister-in-law Connie Wilken, Staplehurst; brother-in-law and spouse Larry and Yvonne Naber, Utica; nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and many other loved relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by parents Alvin and Albertina Luebbe, in-laws Raymond and Mary Naber, brother Duane Luebbe, sister-in-law Wanda Luebbe, nephew Brian Luebbe, brother-in-law Larry Wilken, and best friend and cousin Roger Luebbe.
Memorials to the family will be designated at a future date. Today, pursue your hobbies and embrace all your interests. Live with all the variety you can find.
