Johnnie Boyd Gabel of Seward, Nebraska was born on November 8, 1931 to John and Minnie Ione (Shirley) Gabel in Seward, Nebraska. He graduated from Seward High School in 1951. Following high school, Boyd attended Southeast Community College for two years, graduating with an electrical degree. He served in the United States Air Force from September 25, 1951 to September 25, 1955. On December 28, 1952, Boyd was united in marriage to Marlene “Molly” Hagemoser at United Church of Christ in Seward. He worked as an electrician for Southeast Community College in Milford for more than 20 years. In his free time, Boyd enjoyed fishing, playing cards, collecting things and watching Husker sports. He especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s activities and watching high school sports. Boyd was a member of Legion Post #33. He served as Color Guard during many July 4th parades and Seward High School football games. Boyd passed away on November 10, 2020 in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 89 years and 2 days. He is survived by his wife, Marlene “Molly” Gabel, Seward, Nebraska; sons, Gregory (Linda) Gabel, Greeley, Colorado, Mitchell Gabel, Seward, Nebraska; grandchildren, Rachel Gabel, Kyle Gabel (Meagan Manning), Elizabeth (Andy) Koepp, Jaime Gabel (fiancé, Jason Orr); great grandchildren, Kaden Shepherd, Brenna Koepp, Karina Koepp; sisters-in-law, Carol Hershberger, Bonnie Hagemoser; cousin, Wilma (Darrell) Kilker, Evansville, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Wayne (Marilyn) Hagemoser, Ames, Iowa; good friend, Maurice Zwick, Seward, Nebraska. Boyd was preceded in death by his parents, John and Minnie Gabel; stillborn sister, Shirley Gabel; brothers-in-law, Richard Hagemoser, Dick Hershberger.
