Loretta Wolfer Obituary

Loretta Mae (Burkey) Wolfer, age 92, was called suddenly to her heavenly home on Thursday morning, February 6, 2025.  She was born on December 14, 1932, near Beaver Crossing and lived her whole life in the Milford/Utica area.  She became a Christian as a young teen and was baptized at East Fairview Mennonite Church.  As a young lady she attended Hesston College and also worked at Schlegel’s grocery store.  She married Roy Wolfer on November 19, 1954, and they shared 69 wonderful years together until Roy’s death 13 months ago.  To this union four children were born: Cynthia, Terry, Dan and Linda.  She was a loving, fun and faithful wife, mother, grandma, and great grandma.  She enjoyed her life as a farmer’s wife, raising chickens and selling many dozens of eggs, volunteering at EtCetera, and growing flowers and arranging many bouquets that she and Dad shared with others.

Loretta was preceded in death by her husband Roy, parents Arthur and Amanda (Stutzman) Burkey, brothers Perry (Teresa), Lorence (Floy) and Marlin; sisters Alda (Lloyd) Swartzendruber and Verda (Clayton) White; infant daughter, Cynthia Kay, and the babies who went before us; brother in law, Eldon Miller.  She is survived by children: Terry (Regina) Wolfer, Columbia, South Carolina, Dan (Candace) Wolfer, Beaver Crossing, Nebraska, and Linda (Wes) Helmuth, Plain City, Ohio; grandchildren: Matt (Bailey) Wolfer, David (Samantha) Wolfer, Blake (Janette) Wolfer, Paige (Jalon) Zook, Schyler Wolfer, Leyton Wolfer, Amanda (Andrew) Miller, Nate (Krista) Helmuth, Emily (Tyler) Dyer, Ben (Caroline) Helmuth, Mary (Leighton) Borkholder, and Stewart Helmuth; 22 great-grandchildren; one sister, Arla LeAnn (Eldon) Miller, York, Nebraska, sister-in-law Margie (Marlin) Burkey, Seward, Nebraska, and sister-in-law, Mary (Les) Wolfer of McMinnville, Oregon, and many nieces and nephews who were special to her.

We, as their children, are grateful for the love that Dad & Mom showed to their family and others.  They gave many gifts, made phone calls and traveled many miles to keep in touch; they willingly helped us, prayed regularly for us, and demonstrated an example of faithfulness to God and each other.

We thank Kasey Nicolaus, Shawna Oswald, and Whitney Polak for the loving and excellent care they gave to Mom, enabling her to stay at home until she was called to her heavenly home.
