Martha Frances Werner was born on March 8, 1942, to Leonard and Grace (Johnson) Nyman in Rockford, Illinois. She attended Rockford East High School graduating in 1960, and the Swedish American Hospital School of Nursing of Rockford, graduating in 1963. On June 4, 1966, Martha was united in marriage to John Werner at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Belvidere, Illinois. She enjoyed being a homemaker and taking care of her family. She was an active partner in her husband’s ministry, participating in the Ladies Aid, LWML, AAL and Phoebes groups. Yearly activities included making quilts for World Relief and organizing the annual ice cream social/fund raiser. She also taught Weekday School and VBS, sang in the church choir, and played the Autoharp, piano, and organ. In her free time, Martha enjoyed woodworking, drawing, sewing, crafting, baking and music. Martha passed away on January 13, 2026, in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 83. She is survived by her son, Warren Werner of Seward, Nebraska and daughter, Rebecca (Grant) Schinto, her sister Ann Strawn of Broken Bow, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Werner, parents, Leonard and Grace Nyman, her sister, Mary Lofquist, and brothers-in-law Gerald Lofquist and Robert Strawn.
