Michael Gene Richters was born on July 14, 1958 in Seward, Nebraska to Delmer Gene and Rita Marie (Wefer) Richters. He passed away on May 11, 2024 in Santa Fe, New Mexico at the age of 65 years.
Mike was baptized on July 27, 1958 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Utica, Nebraska. He was confirmed on March 30, 1972 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Mike attended Centennial Public School graduating in 1976. He was active in his family’s farming and cattle feeding operation for 10 years.
He graduated with Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Business Administration/Finance from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1999.
After spending a decade in the world of financial advising, he started Colorado’s first lavender farm “Colorado MountainView Lavender” near Longmont, Colorado. Hundreds of people visited his farm to pick lavender, enjoy lavender lemonade and to try his famous homemade lavender ice cream. He also sold lavender products to boutiques throughout the United States.
Mike spent 9 years living in Costa Rica. He loved the climate and living near the ocean with the sloths, monkeys, and other creatures of the rain forest.
Mike was well-known for his trumpet playing talent. He was in the University of Colorado marching band. He played with the Serenaders, Moustache Joe band, and the Freedom band in Denver, Colorado. He loved sharing his musical talent at his church. It was an honor for Mike to play Taps at many gravesites to pay his respects to veterans.
His dogs, Tera and Luna were dearly loved by Mike. They went for daily walks. Mike met many new people on those walks. His neighbor, Anna, was one of his favorite friends in Santa Fe. Mike often spoke of his “church family” that he dearly cared for.
