Myrtle Josephine Heiden was born at home near Thayer, Nebraska to Abel and Lydia (Rabe) Heiden. Following graduation from York High School in 1944, Myrtle enrolled at the Immanuel Hospital School of Nursing in Omaha, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1948. She was united in marriage to Henry Pankoke on September 25, 1949 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York, Nebraska. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Mark Douglas and Pamela Jane. Myrtle worked for 41 years as a Registered Nurse in both York and Seward, retiring in 1989. She enjoyed quilting and china painting and held various offices with the Blue Valley China Painters. She belonged to St. John Ladies' Aid, Comforter group and volunteered for many church and community activities including the Lied Senior Center. Myrtle was a very patient and loving mother, wife and caregiver. Myrtle passed away on October 22, 2017 in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 90 years, 11 months and 19 days. She is survived by her husband, Henry "Dutch" Pankoke, Seward, Nebraska; son, Mark (Claudia) Pankoke, Lincoln, Nebraska; daughter, Pam Pankoke, Roseville, California; grandchildren, Denise (Mike) Fields, Lincoln, Nebraska, Eric (Jessica) Pankoke, Omaha, Nebraska, Jeffrey (Mindy) Pankoke, Lincoln, Nebraska; great grandchildren, Alexandra and Noah Fields, Breckin and Brody Pankoke, Eve and Wesley Pankoke; sister, Pearl Chesley, Lincoln, Nebraska; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents, Abel and Lydia Heiden; brother, Arthur Heiden.
