Philip Coffey Obituary

Philip Coffey, 73, of Seward died February 20, 2014 in Lincoln, NE. Philip Lemoyne Coffey was born April 18, 1940 to Dean and Dorothy (Ruby) Coffey at Beaver City, NE. He was a graduate of Beaver City High School and went on to attend Kearney State College. Philip was united in marriage to Karen R. Miller on February 14, 1969 at Minden, NE. The couple was blessed with three children. Philip spent the majority of his life as an over the road truck driver, driving for Ideal Truck Lines, Brown Transfer, and retiring from Consolidated Freightways; being very skilled at his trade, he was recognized by CF for driving over two million accident free miles. He then fulfilled his lifelong dream of owning his own big rig and continued to travel with his wife and special canine companion "Freckles". He then finished his over the road career with GHI Transfer, but his love for trucking wouldn't allow him to remain idle, so he continued driving locally for area farmers. Philip truly loved his job. He also touched the lives of many children during his years of driving a school bus for the Seward Public Schools. He also enjoyed following Nebraska athletics, having coffee with his morning coffee group and teasing his grandchildren. Philip is survived by his wife of 45 years, Karen Coffey of Seward; and their children, Sondra (Frank) Ortiz of Rociada, N.M.; Sherril (Gerald) Kouma of Dwight, NE; and Deena (Gary) Haberman of Gresham, NE; grandchildren, Jason (Jessica) Goen; Tom (Nickie) Kouma; James (Kasey) Goen; Tina (Chris) Leonard; Niki Kouma; Kyli Kouma; Krysta Haberman and Brayden Haberman; as well as 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ben (Sue) Coffey of Seward, NE; sisters, Sharon (Don) Herren of Kearney, NE; and Debbie (Larry) Broadfoot of Kearney, NE; as well as a sister in law, Karen Jo Coffey of Elephant Butte, N.M. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Richard Coffey; nephew Timothy Coffey and an uncle, Ross Coffey. Visitation Time(s)
