Rex Willard Janes

Rex was born on November 30, 1919 to Vinten "Dude" and Leone (Armstrong) Janes on a farm southeast of McCool Junction, Nebraska. He graduated from McCool Junction High School in 1938. On August 1, 1943, Rex was united in marriage to Donna Langhans in Buffalo, New York. He enlisted in the United States Army on July 25, 1944 and was discharged on December 20, 1944. Rex worked at the Curtiss Wright Airplane Factory during WWII. He also owned a filling station in Kenmore, New York. He moved to Exeter, Nebraska in 1953 and began farming. He later moved to Utica, Nebraska and retired from farming in the fall of 1984. In his free time he enjoyed traveling and putting puzzles together. He was a 64 year member of Utica American Legion Post #49 and Utica United Methodist Church. Rex passed away on June 23, 2017 in Seward, Nebraska at the age of 97 years, 6 months and 24 days. He is survived by his children, Duane (Ellen) Janes Sr., Homosassa, Florida, Dennis (Stephanie) Janes, Omaha, Nebraska, Shirley Janes, St. Louis, Missouri, Donalee (Rick) Burns, West Roxbury, Massachusetts, David (Pat) Janes Sr., Utica, Nebraska; grandchildren, Tammy Jo Trahan, Tracey Luckey, Duane (Maria) Janes Jr., Jeffrey (Leslie) Janes, Brian Janes, Heather (Todd) Sorensen, Holly (Mat) Ingram, Brianne Janes, David (Katie) Janes Jr., Brook (Tina) Janes, Emily Burns and Meghan Burns; 21 great grandchildren; brother, Kenneth Janes; sister, Treva Lind; sister-in-law, Shirley (Leonard) Janes. Rex was preceded in death by his parents, Vinten and Leone Janes; wife, Donna Janes; brother and sister-in-law, Gailord and JoAnn Janes; brother, Dencel Janes; sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and Vern Hurlburt.
