Stanley "Stan" Schlueter Obituary

Stanley “Stan” Gilbert Schlueter was born on September 4, 1945, to Leonard and Maryanna (Ost) Schlueter in Seward, Nebraska. He attended St. John Lutheran School and Seward High School, graduating in 1963. On February 7, 1970, Stan was united in marriage to Mary E. Gleisberg at St. Thomas Aquinas Church at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He was a lifetime member at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward, Nebraska.

He served in the National Guard from 1965 until 1971 as an Equipment Engineer. As a young man, he assisted his father on the farm and worked at the Rolfsmeier Dairy.  He began his 43-year-long career at Concordia University - Seward as the Equipment Manager and Athletic Trainer, finally retiring in 2009.

“Stan the Man” built a legacy in the Concordia athletic department, assisting thousands of athletes, hundreds of coaches, and groundskeepers. His dedication and resourcefulness helped build the athletic programs and facilities. Stan was always on the sidelines and in retirement, enjoyed attending Bulldog games from the top of the stands.

Many in Seward would see Stan at a Seward wrestling club meet, assisting 4-H members with animals at the fair, and sitting on the worship board at St. John Lutheran Church. He was also an active member of Pheasants Forever and the Concordia Boosters Club. For the last few years, he devoted time to volunteering for Orphan Grain Train.

Stan loved the outdoors and enjoyed sharing his passion for habitat and land stewardship. He shared many memories hunting and fishing over the years with many friends and family. He enjoyed watching deer, turkeys, and other wildlife that crossed through the acreage he built with his wife, Mary. Stan loved family gatherings, meals, and attending his grandchildren’s games and events.

Stan passed away peacefully at his home on July 21, 2025, in Seward, Nebraska, at the age of 79. He is survived by his children, Sarah (Daniel) Brumm of Seward, Nebraska, Caredy (Josh) Stoll of Seward, Nebraska, Andrew (Taunya) Schlueter of Seward, Nebraska and Kathryn Schlueter (Jay Irwin) of Lincoln, Nebraska; grandchildren, Siana Dyell, Maiah Dyell, Mikayla (Landon) Wright, Noah Brumm, Seynen McNeff, Caylen McNeff (Hallie Morales), Amy Brutsche, Axton “AJ” Schlueter, Knox Schlueter and Willow Scholl; great grandchildren, Asher McNeff, Clay Krafka and Andi McNeff; brothers, Donald (Judy) Schlueter, Detroit, Michigan and Robert (Angie) Schlueter, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; sister, Jane Smith, Lincoln, Nebraska; brother-n-law, Robert (Mary) Gleisberg, Oceanside, California; and special cousins, nieces and nephews.

Stan was preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. Schlueter; infant son, Sam Leed Schlueter; brother, Jerrold Schlueter; parents, Leonard and Maryanna Schlueter; parents-in-law, Edward and Doris Gleisberg.

Stan’s door was always open to friends and family who stopped in for a visit. He was generous with his time, effort, and resources; offering assistance with a humble heart. “Stan the Man” would remind all of us, “Just Smile.”
