Sylvia von Fange Obituary

Sylvia Ann von Fange, of Austin, Texas, passed away on September 4, 2025, trusting in Jesus as her Lord and Savior. She was born in Porterville, CA, on January 3, 1944, to Theodore and Verda (Kroeger) von Fange, and was baptized into Christ on January 23, 1944, at Zion Lutheran Church, Terra Bella, California. She confirmed her faith in Jesus at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Lakewood, Ohio, on April 14, 1957.

After graduating from Wichita State University, she earned a master’s degree in Spanish at the University of Buffalo before working at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC. Sylvia later moved to Austin and earned a master’s degree in library science at the University of Texas, Austin. Upon graduation, she enjoyed a long career as the lead research librarian at the Texas State Water Resource Board.

Sylvia is lovingly remembered as a warm, friendly, and welcoming person, a loving and caring sister and aunt who was always open to new adventures, a caring listener with valuable insights, a happy spirit who brought joy to others, an avid gardener with a special love for Texas wildflowers, and a great neighbor.

She is survived by sisters Karen Clausen and Susan von Fange, brother Howard and Rose von Fange, and nieces and nephews Steve Clausen, Krista (Shadd) Rohrbough, Sadie von Fange, and Paul von Fange and great-nephew Kaleb Blakemore. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Verda (Kroeger) von Fange, grandparents Justinus and Dorothea von Fange and Oscar and Elizabeth Kroeger, brother-in-law Bryce Clausen, and great nephew Zachary Clausen.
