Justine M. Liggett, 86, Fort Collins, CO formerly of Utica, died Sunday, January 24, 2010, in Santa Barbara, CA.
Justine was born to C. Lee and Esther (Christensen) Joynt on December 20, 1923 in St. Paul, NE. She was a graduate of St. Paul High School in 1941. Justine married George H. Liggett, Jr on October 6, 1956 and they raised three children in Utica, NE. Received her nursing degree from Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1945, and was a member of the US Cadet Nurse Corp during World War II and completed her Bachelorís Degree at Hastings College in 1951. She was employed by Mary Lanning and Lincoln General Hospital. Justine started Girl Scouts in Utica and was instrumental in promoting the building of the community swimming pool. She has been honored for her service to Girl Scouting and her years of service on the Homestead Girl Scout Council.
She is survived by a son, Thomas Liggett of Tempe, AZ; two daughters and their husbands, Nancy and Alan Edmundson of Santa Barbara, CA and Susan and Steve Matthew of Fort Collins, CO; grandchildren, Christyn, Alisha and Bradley Edmundson, and Sarah and Emily Matthews; cousin Marilynn Bell of Fayetteville, AR; sisters-in-law, Norma Joynt of Topeka, KS and Mary Ann Leggett and Lizabeth Liggett of Lincoln, NE; She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Liggett; brother James Joynt.
She will be remembered for her love of education, her commitment to family, her infectious laugh, and her fun-loving spirit which she was able to share with others throughout her life.
