In 1972, Deroyce Volzke opened Volzke Mortuary in Seward, Nebraska. He was the sole operator until 1994 when his son, Jeff, joined his father as a funeral director in the family business. The name was changed to Volzke Funeral Home. After Deroyce’s retirement in 2016, Jeff took ownership of the funeral home. Volzke Funeral Home is the only funeral home in Seward County that has been owned and operated by the same family for over 48 years.

Jeff graduated from Seward High School in 1987 and from Southeast Community College in Milford in 1989. He then attended the University of Nebraska – Lincoln and Concordia University Seward, Nebraska where he completed his State of Nebraska requirements. Jeff graduated from Dallas Institute of Funeral Service in 1993 in Dallas, Texas. He has held a Nebraska Funeral and Embalmers License since 1994. He is the 2nd generation of funeral directors in his family. Jeff is a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Nebraska Funeral Directors Association, Seward Cemetery Board, Seward Volunteer Fire Department - Reserves, Seward Chamber of Commerce, charter member of the Seward Youth and Community Club, Seward County Ducks Unlimited.
Administrative Assistant
Kirsten grew up in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. She attended University of Nebraska at Lincoln. She and Jeff were married at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward in 1993. Following Deroyce’s retirement in 1996, she began working in the office as the administrative assistant.
Funeral assistant
Jaden is currently working on his State of Nebraska requirements for funeral directing.
